These were the builders! [total : 1 comment(s) to this image] 10 of these diesel hydraulic locos were part of the builders of SMRT network structure. They delivered Platform Screen Doors, generators, switch-gears, transformers, main station equipments etc.
And its power came from a small Caterpillar engine, emitting only 280 Kilowatts!
There were also other locos from the construction firm Boots-Gammon_Singa J.V.

3rd rail "pick-up" [total : 15 comment(s) to this image] It's alwayz in the sprung-up position. Its spring loaded (upwards) so that firm contact could be achieved wherever a 3rd rail exists. It can be "disabled mechanically" or put down (no contact with 3rd rail during maintenance.
4 pick-ups in every car. All bonded to one point, so that continous 750 vdc supply can be garnered. Possible of a flash, or what is termed as "an arcing" will happen, if any fuse from one pick-up is blown. So, when the car passes on a 3rd rail gap (normally at crossings),high current, which will result in an arcing will take place. This is because either one of the pick-up fuse is blown and the other working one, is taking momentary power supply loss. This does not happen normally, as the fuses are regularly checked.

3rd rail contact [total : 2 comment(s) to this image] There's a "pick-up shoe" on each side of every bogie (in the case for mrt). It'll slide along the 3rd rail (or power rail) like a life-line!

Typical Singapore Mah! [total : 9 comment(s) to this image] Anyway I have to say unfortunately this photo looks to me like as if it was staged. Way not convincing enough. You (who ever took this photo) should have to at least photograph a train that is really full of passengers.
And one thing very amusing to me is the sub-heading. "Ugly Singaporean block exit...". Good heading though, but look at who's talking!
So in conclusion, I think this is a really bad... ad or whatever you call it.

haha [total : 1 comment(s) to this image] when I rode the SMRT for the first and last time in 1993, the route only went as far North as Yishun, East as Pasir Ris, West as Boon Lay, North West as Choa Chu Kang. NEL was non-existent then, as was the Changi spur.

Yes. The NEL trainset is using pantograph. That time we realise when Suhirman , Hanafiah and me on board the train. I just thinking why the subway need using overhead wires. Both of them also get confuse. Hehehe..

NEL and SMRT 3rd gens....... [total : 6 comment(s) to this image] NEL VPIS usually broadcasts safety messages......CMC (some sort of mediation centre) ads and Buddha Relic Temple ads.......
SMRT 3rdGen (the black trains) sometimes not on, other times full of advertisements until I feel very "sian" already............
I think/guess that this is a VPIS on KTM Komuter.........and maybe broadcasts a good combination of both NEL and SMRT when the VPIS is turned on?

Those who did not go into the seating area then all of us (abt 30 passengers?) wedged between the 2 doors and the couplers. Haha.. Now at least got standing area for those with luggage and without the walls beside the doors..
