Re-launch of Butterworth through to Singapore Train Service

(Butterworth) The Butterworth through to Singapore train service "Ekspres Rakyat" that has been stopped for 7 years, was relaunched yesterday. This 774-km long journey takes 14 hours and 40 minutes.

The (deputy) manager for Northern sector said that, the Ekspres Rakyat (for KL - Butterworth) was supsneded since 2001 due to the Double Tracking Project construction works from Ipoh, Perak to Rawang, Selangor, and as this project have since completed, the railway company decided to reinstate this through service.

Ekspres Rakyat (actually should refer as the railway company) provides 3 services daily, at 7am, 10.40am and 9.45pm, among which only the 7am train would run through to Singapore, and the others will require to change trains at KL Sentral.

The manager said that Ekspres Rakyat has a total of 10 coaches, and can accomodate 400 to 500 passengers, and if the response was warm, the railway company would consider adding additional coaches.

As for the tickets, he said, the fare for first (Premier) class seats would cost 127 RM (appx 55 SGD) for adults and children 60 RM; for second (Superior) class seats it would be 68 RM for adults and 34 RM for children; and when travelling from Butterworth to KL, fares for first (Premier) class seats would cost 67 RM for adults and 34 RM for children, and fares for second (Superior) class seats would cost 38 RM for adults and 21 RM for children.

He also stated that this train will travel past 20 stops before reaching Singapore. These stations would include Bukit Mertajam, Taiping, Ipoh, Kampar, KL Sentral, Seremban, Gemas, Segamat, Kluang and Johor Bahru etc.

Your comfortness is...

as good as your ringgit payment. For those butts that are too 'manja' to take long hours journey, want fast and direct service, there is always VIP bus or better yet, AirAsia. If you still insist on train, then write to YTL, ask them to expedite their project.Who do we blame,KTM or ourself if we already know the journey is going to be slow yet we choose to take them as if they're the only principal carrier in Malaysia?
