Hmm..,

KTMB only stretched some express train from Tanjung Pagar to Ipoh on certain days. If the response is good, I'm sure this dream of having a non-stop Singapore-Padang Besar intercity train can be materialised.

errr

is there demand? From my trainspotting sessions, the up SM past KL is almost always almost empty. The down SM however is filled to a degree....

yeah

most of the day, SM to Ipoh usually EMPTY. For us (train crew) it is like we are carrying the ghost train, mostly nobody board the train from KL to Ipoh.

i like singapore- butterworth nite trains. i hope ktmb can do dis service.but i thing is bad tat,singapore-Ipoh nite train .take veri long to reach.like 10om depart frm singapore and arrive Ipoh at next day 10am+ 12hrs..

bus jus can took less dan 6 hrs to Ipoh...
I wish ktmb make the timing more faster and come early as soon, to make passenger comfortable.

hmm..

Don't compare with bus, their destination just from point A to point B only n thats why the travel time is short,it's not like train service esspecially Singapore - Seremban route or vice versa their have many station to stop n train crossings as well.KL - Ipoh route with KTMB shuttle service now days making express buses service a main competitor.

SM

north of KL really ought to extend to Butterworth for any hope of catching any tourist traffic from Singapore. Ipoh is seldom or never considered as a tourist destination.

well as for me i'll prefer a train than a express bus...my reason is simple...train 'fanatic' and i don't mind if it take 10-12hrs...

Personally...

If given a choice of ER2 or SM12 to Butterworth, I'll take SM12, if timetable arrival in Butterworth is about 3pm or earlier. But Penang has lesser attractions than KL. One way is to promote Penang food for more tourists to visit the island. :p

I imagine...

...that SM 12 will have a very tight turnaround time if at all if it were to extend to Butterworth. I estimate an ETA of around 2PM at Butterworth, and it will have to turn south immediately to keep the timing for SM 11. One delay anywhere along the Northbound journey will echo quite bad ...

on another note

...that's why KTM used to have separate SM service for the north...SM 9 & SM 10 between KL & Butterworth. The current trains 1003 & 1004 timings seem to closely follow the old 9 & 10. Different consist, of course.

Hmm..,

If the double tracking from Tjg Pagar - Padang Besar is materialised, then these express buses have to compete with trains if KTMB installed some high-speed trains along the route. If it runs on a commercial normal speed of 160km/h, Tjg Pagar - KL: about 2-3 hours, Tjg Pagar - Butterworth : aroound 5-6 hours, Tjg Pagar - Padang Beso : Roughly 7-8 hours including of stoppage at stations along the way. If a direct express which only stops at 8 major station ie: Tjg Pagar-JB-Seremban-KL-Ipoh-Butterworth-Alor Setaq-Padang Besar, the time can be hugely decreases.

Exp. Langkawi

strecth it and start from Singapore. cancel the Exp Sinaran petang. So, this exp. start from Singapore to Hatyai.
- no need extra coach for KTMB. use the consist as EL.
- minor adjustable timetable.
- ticketing still the same.
